ANTIQUE FURNITURE RESTORATION | ANTIQUE WAX | FLOORING | PAINT
Antique furniture restoration is a delicate process and should never involve the use of paint stripper or sanding paper. Keep in mind that repair to antique furniture may in fact decrease it's value.
Cottage furniture offers a restorer much more flexibility and choice in the restoration process. Pieces are often painted and although some prefer the painted look, you may choose to remove the paint and sand the item.
The aim of a true restoration process is to enhance the natural look of the wood and to restore the item to its original finishing.
Restoration of antique furniture usually involves the following key steps:
1. Varnishes and paint removal.
2. Repair to woodwork.
3. Light sanding of damaged wood.
4. Treatment using sealer.
5. Finishing using oil, waxes, polyurethane.
Never just apply a varnish to a sanded item for a finish. Ideally you would apply various coats of the finishing medium, and use fine steel wool to achieve a smooth and nice to touch finish. For heavy use items such as tables you may apply a sealer to protect the wood from heat and moisture.
Wood Reviver
Woodoc Wood Reviver cleans and rejuvenates wood that has been discoloured and blackened by exposure to weather and the elements. It can be used on all types of wood and kills mould.
Antique Wax
Woodoc Antique Wax is formulated in the tradition and high standards of Woodoc wood care products. Blended with the finest waxes on a white wax base, Antique Wax from Woodoc cleans and refreshes as it polishes, leaving no residual build-up.
The beauty of Woodoc 10, besides the way it nourishes and preserves the wood, is that the finish can be controlled from a matt to a semi-gloss finish. Just follow the instructions on the tin.
Apply the first two coats normally. Then apply the third coat and while it's still wet, wipe down with a paper towel or cloth. If a gloss finish is required, leave to dry normally.
Treat your furniture the Woodoc way...
